Land Acknowledgment
It is important to us that we reflect on the history of the land that we occupy. We honor the ancestral home of the tribal nations across our five states where we are learning, working, and organizing today. Each tribe has its own unique peoples, languages, and spiritual and health practices, as do all the more than 500 federally recognized American Indian tribes.
The MIDWest states represented at the conference include Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Among these 5 states there are 33 federally recognized tribes.
We acknowledge and thank these indigenous communities for their stewardship of this land through the generations and pay respect to their elders past and present. We take time today to honor them. The land that surrounds us is part of who we are, and it reflects our histories.
